I hear you think \u2013 huh,\u00a0 Vata??\u00a0 Whatta??<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the Ayurveda (sister science of Yoga) they work with the five elements earth, water, fire, air and ether, and three doshas or constitutions:\u00a0 Kapha,\u00a0 Pitta, and Vata.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kapha<\/strong> (pronounced kaffa) represents the Earth and Water element. The qualities are heavy, humid, and cool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pitta<\/strong> represents the Fire and Water element: in short your digestive fire and energy management, processing experiences in the mind. The qualities are hot, \u00a0light, \u00a0intense and sharp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vata<\/strong> represents the air and ether element: everything that is in motion. Joints, blood, breath, your mind. The qualities are light, dry and cold, rough, and changeable.<\/p>\n<p>Autumn is a period of change and transformation. The sweet and warm summer days give way to stormy skies with rain and lots of wind, which also tears the colored leaves from the trees. All this movement and change can make you feel more tired, and it also seems like this storm is <strong>in<\/strong> your mind and you&#8217;re less <em>cool &amp; collected\u00a0<\/em>than usual. Sounds familiar? Read on!<\/p>\n<p>The air element can be aggravated by the fire element and is balanced by the earth element. Choose to do grounding exercises and balancing yoga postures. Feed yourself with food that is nourishing and comes from the earth: sweet potato, pumpkin, stews for example. Zucchini soup is also an ideal food to reduce Vata imbalance. Avoid raw foods such as fruits and vegetables and instead, mix cooked apple through your oats and eat cooked or oven-baked root vegetables. Drink hot drinks and add warming herbs such as cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, and cardamom. Fatty foods (oil, avocados, nuts) also reduce Vata. For example, in the morning <u>before<\/u> the shower, grease yourself with sesame oil: delicious for your skin and works extremely well against a Vata-high!<\/p>\n<p>Restorative and yin yoga are delicious yoga practices if you find yourself with a full head and a tired body.<\/p>\n<p>What is also helpful: do everything you do slowly and with attention. Watta?<\/strong><\/p><p>In de Ayurveda (zusterwetenschap van Yoga) werken ze naast de vijf elementen aarde, water, vuur, lucht en ether, met drie doshas ofwel constituties: Kapha, Pitta en Vata. Wij zijn allemaal een samenstelling van deze drie dosha's: bijna niemand is of helemaal Kapha, of helemaal Pitta, of helemaal Vata: een combinatie van deze drie komt vaker voor.<\/p><p><strong>Kapha<\/strong> (spreek uit: kaffa) representeert het Aarde en Water element. De kwaliteiten zijn zwaar, vochtig en warm.<\/p><p><strong>Pitta<\/strong> representeert het Vuur en water element: in het kort je spijsverteringsvuur en energiehuishouding, het verwerken van ervaringen. De kwaliteiten zijn heet, licht, intens en scherp.<\/p><p><strong>Vata<\/strong> representeert het lucht en ether element: alles wat in beweging is. Gewrichten, bloed, adem, je mind. De kwaliteiten zijn licht, droog en koud, ruw en veranderlijk.<\/p><p>De herfst is een periode waarin veel verandering plaatsvindt. De zwoele zomerdagen maken plaats voor stormachtige momenten met regen en veel wind, waardoor ook de verkleurende bladeren van de bomen worden gerukt. Al deze beweging en verandering kan er voor zorgen dat je jezelf vermoeider voelt, dat het lijkt alsof het ook waait in je mind en je minder <em>cool &amp; collected<\/em> bent dan normaal. Klinkt bekend? Lees dan verder!<\/p><p>Het lucht element wordt aangewakkerd door het vuur-element en wordt in balans gebracht door het aarde element. Kies ervoor om aardende oefeningen te doen en balancerende yogahoudingen. Voed jezelf met eten dat voedend werkt en uit de aarde komt: zoete aardappel, pompoen, stoofschotels bijvoorbeeld. Courgettesoep is ook ideaal voedsel om vata disbalans te verminderen. Vermijd rauw voedsel zoals fruit en groenten maar maak bijvoorbeeld appelmoes en gekookte of in de oven gebakken wortelgroenten. Drink lekkere warme drankjes en doe daar verwarmende kruiden in zoals kaneel, zwarte peper, gember en kardemom. Ook vettige voeding (olie, avocado\u2019s, noten) werken vata verlagend. Smeer jezelf bijvoorbeeld \u2019s morgens v\u00f3\u00f3r de douche eens in met sesamolie: heerlijk voor je huid en werkt enorm goed tegen een vata-high!<\/p><p>Restorative en yin yoga zijn heerlijke yogalessen als je merkt dat je een vol hoofd en een vermoeid lichaam hebt.<\/p><p>Wat heel goed helpt: doe alles wat je doet langzaam en met aandacht.
