They make us smaller and hold us back, even though that\u2019s not necessary. These thoughts arise from convictions we have developed over time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"167\" data-end=\"353\">\n<p data-start=\"167\" data-end=\"353\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5787\" src=\"https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/008-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"008\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/008-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/008-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/008-500x500.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/008-610x610.jpeg 610w, https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/008.jpeg 720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"862\">Many of these convictions originate in childhood, and we carry them with us for years \u2014 often unconsciously \u2014 without ever questioning whether they are still true. One of the most pervasive limiting beliefs comes from a familiar conviction, appearing in many variations: <em data-start=\"626\" data-end=\"652\">\u201cI\u2019m not doing it right\u201d<\/em> or <em data-start=\"656\" data-end=\"680\">\u201cI\u2019m not good enough.\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"680\" data-end=\"683\" \/>By examining these beliefs and asking yourself, \u201cIs this really true?\u201d, you create space and new possibilities. You free yourself, allowing room for growth instead of restriction.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"864\" data-end=\"928\">But how do you actually let go of beliefs and limiting thoughts?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"930\" data-end=\"1264\">Sometimes you\u2019re not even aware that a limiting belief is operating in the background. This is why it\u2019s important to learn to recognize\u00a0\u00a0them. <em data-start=\"1072\" data-end=\"1115\">\u201cSee them, know them, and watch them go\u201d.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"930\" data-end=\"1264\">To stop a limiting belief, you have to address it at the root and investigate it. I often use a technique from the Vipassana meditation tradition:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1748\">You don\u2019t need to <em data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1288\">do<\/em> anything special. Simply find a quiet moment and become aware. Thoughts will arise naturally. When a tho<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1748\">ught appears, label it from a distance \u2014 not \u201c<em data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1442\">I<\/em> am thinking,\u201d but \u201cthere <em data-start=\"1468\" data-end=\"1472\">is<\/em> thinking.\u201d When a thought shows up that feels worth exploring, stay with it and examine it.<br data-start=\"1564\" data-end=\"1567\" \/>Sometimes it helps to write the thought down along with any feelings or companion-thoughts that arise. By doing this, you unravel the belief layer by layer until you reach the core.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5784 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/negatieve-gedachten-269x300.png\" alt=\"negatieve-gedachten\" width=\"269\" height=\"300\" style=\"font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/negatieve-gedachten-269x300.png 269w, https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/negatieve-gedachten-449x500.png 449w, https:\/\/yogaspot.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/negatieve-gedachten.png 482w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 269px) 100vw, 269px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1750\" data-end=\"1923\">The real art lies in recognizing your limiting beliefs and thought patterns, and then reshaping them into genuinely new auto<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1750\" data-end=\"1923\">matic patterns that support the goals you desire.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1925\" data-end=\"2295\">This is more challenging than it sounds. A belief that has been embedded in your system for years won\u2019t disappear overnight. But once you start recognizing the limiting thought, you\u2019ve already won more than half the battle.<br data-start=\"2147\" data-end=\"2150\" \/>Give it a try \u2014 and don\u2019t be discouraged if it doesn\u2019t work immediately. It requires some effort and practice, but the outcome is deeply healing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2297\" data-end=\"2405\">Whenever you find yourself making conclusions in your stream of thoughts, ask the right questions. Consider:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2407\" data-end=\"2601\">\u2013 Is this really true?<br data-start=\"2429\" data-end=\"2432\" \/>\u2013 What am I basing this on?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2407\" data-end=\"2601\">\u2013 How do I know for sure?<br data-start=\"2487\" data-end=\"2490\" \/>\u2013 What evidence do I have?<br data-start=\"2516\" data-end=\"2519\" \/>\u2013 What am I inferring?<br data-start=\"2541\" data-end=\"2544\" \/>\u2013 Why is this important?<br data-start=\"2568\" data-end=\"2571\" \/>\u2013 What is this <em data-start=\"2586\" data-end=\"2594\">really<\/em> about?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2603\" data-end=\"2955\">Once you gain clarity, you can begin reshaping limiting beliefs into new conditioned thought patterns. This process is known as <em data-start=\"2731\" data-end=\"2763\">neuro-associative conditioning<\/em>. It means breaking old, unhelpful patterns and integrating new ones step by step into your belief system.<br data-start=\"2869\" data-end=\"2872\" \/>From there, you create a positive affirmation that contradicts the limiting belief.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2957\" data-end=\"2994\"><strong data-start=\"2957\" data-end=\"2994\">Examples of Positive Affirmations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2996\" data-end=\"3105\">Old: <em data-start=\"3001\" data-end=\"3017\">I can\u2019t do it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>New: <em data-start=\"3025\" data-end=\"3105\">I can do almost anything if I dedicate enough time to it. I believe in myself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3107\" data-end=\"3239\">Old: <em data-start=\"3112\" data-end=\"3140\">They are better than I am.<\/em><br data-start=\"3140\" data-end=\"3143\" \/>New: <em data-start=\"3148\" data-end=\"3239\">I stay true to myself, and that is enough. Those who don\u2019t appreciate that can fall away.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3241\" data-end=\"3353\">Old: <em data-start=\"3246\" data-end=\"3281\">I don\u2019t have the talent for that.<\/em><br data-start=\"3281\" data-end=\"3284\" \/>New: <em data-start=\"3289\" data-end=\"3353\">Anything I can\u2019t do yet, I can learn \u2014 and then I can do it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3355\" data-end=\"3583\">If a thought keeps bothering you, you can also tell it to stop by saying: <em data-start=\"3429\" data-end=\"3456\">\u201cStop, this is not true!\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"3456\" data-end=\"3459\" \/>If you do this consistently, every time the thought appears, your mind will eventually learn this as the automatic response.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3585\" data-end=\"3833\">Remember: your world is shaped by how you see it \u2014 but what you see is not the roadmap.<br data-start=\"3672\" data-end=\"3675\" \/>An event has no inherent meaning; it only has the meaning <em data-start=\"3733\" data-end=\"3738\">you<\/em> give it.<br \/>If you don\u2019t assign it meaning, you don\u2019t feed the limiting beliefs attached to it.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3835\" data-end=\"3860\">With love,<br data-start=\"3845\" data-end=\"3848\" \/><strong data-start=\"3848\" data-end=\"3860\">Margriet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3835\" data-end=\"3860\"><strong data-start=\"3848\" data-end=\"3860\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n<span class=\"et_bloom_bottom_trigger\"><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Limiting Beliefs Limiting Beliefs Limiting beliefs narrow our view of ourselves.
