Yoga emerged more than 4000 years ago in India. It teaches you to become aware of your body and mind, and balance the two. You work on the unity of body and mind through a combination of breathing, physical exercises and concentration.

Everyone who practises yoga, at any level, changes his or her moods. You balance your mind and make sure you experience less emotional pressure. Especially in our hectic 21st century, yoga is a good way of allowing for calmness and relaxation. Practising yoga has many advantages, and it would be best for you to come in and find out exactly what yoga can do for you. These are the most well-known benefits:

• Better health
• More inner peace
• More energy
• Weight loss
• Strong and flexible body
• Spiritual growth
• Pain relief
• Less stress
• Improved breathing
• Improved blood circulation
• Focus on the now, mindfulness
• Better digestion
• Easier to relax

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Should I have prior knowledge before starting yoga?”]

When I think about yoga, I immediately think about having your legs in your neck & headstands…..Breathe……If you can breathe, you can do yoga. The essence of yoga is not in the poses (asanas). If yoga is an iceberg, then only the top of the iceberg is doing the asanas. The poses, breathing exercises and meditation exercises that you will find in every class help you to become aware of your body and mind. There is a form of yoga that fits everyone and every need. There is, for example, chair yoga for people who can’t sit on the floor, or special yoga for endurance athletes to help them loosen shortened leg muscles. So, to start doing yoga, you don’t have to be capable of anything, you just have to want to do it.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”I understood that there are various styles of yoga, how do I know what the difference is and what will suit me?”]

That’s a very good question! And that’s why we’ve provided a comprehensive explanation of each style on our website below the ‘yoga’ heading. We clarify 1) What the style means, 2) What a class looks like, 3) What this type of yoga is good for and 4) Who teaches this type of yoga at Yoga Spot. From this starting point, you will already get a feel for what style could suit you. Then it’s just a matter of experience. We offer 3 trial classes for 25 EUR, so you can try different styles and teachers (each teacher has their own way of going about it). Afterwards, 99% of our students know their favourite style. If you haven’t had or would like some personal advice, please just ask! That’s what we’re here for.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”How long before the class do I have to be there?”]

If you are here 10-15 minutes before the class starts, you will have plenty of time to get changed, enjoy a cup of tea and get into zen mode! This way, you’ll start a class in a better frame of mind than if you were to rush in with just 2 minutes to spare before class begins. And……your fellow yogis/pilatis will be thankful for that too!

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=” What clothes should I wear?”]

You don’t have to buy special yoga pants to start doing yoga. Just wear something that’s comfortable and easy to move around in. Most women like to wear leggings or shorts (watch out – with yoga you don’t always have your legs closed :p). Wide jogging pants in a thick fabric aren’t really suitable. What you wear on top doesn’t really matter. It helps, though, not to wear a shirt that’s so loose that it falls off when you bend forward.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Do I have to bring anything?”]

Normally, no. If you sweat a lot, a towel would be a good idea, but it’s not obligatory. We would advise you not to drink during class. Before and after class we serve water and of course our lovely Bengal Spice herbal tea.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=” Can I eat before class?”]

We wouldn’t necessarily advise you to. It’s best not to eat up to two hours before class (you can always drink). Just be aware that you will be bending, turning, stretching and straightening. We don’t want you to get stomach pain or a bloated feeling during classs. Besides, yoga exercises are aimed at removing waste from your body. That’s harder when your body also needs to spend energy on digesting food.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”How many students are there in a class?”]

At Yoga Spot, we think it’s important that our yogi’s have enough space and receive personal attention during the class. The maximum number of students is therefore between 14 (depending on the yoga style). In addition to the spots you can reserve, we always keep 1 spot open for people who want to join the class without having pre-booked. When the maximum number of people is reached and you enrol later, then you will be added to the reserve list. You’ll be able to see this online when you enrol. A spot isn’t guaranteed, but by coming to the studio you can often use one of the ‘free’ spots. We have a ‘first come, first served’ policy in place, so keep that in mind.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”At the beginning of the class, the teacher sometimes asks to set an intention for the class. What is that and why do we do it?”]

When setting an intention, you stand still. Why are you doing yoga? What do you want to get out of it? That can be all of it. An intention is not the same as a goal, so the word ‘must’ shouldn’t be a part of it. We want you to be nice to yourself. An intention could be that you want to give your mind some peace, or become aware of your breathing, or that you will be loving and accepting of what your body will do in the practice. The intention gives direction to your attention and energy. It provides focus during the class.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”I always say ‘Namaste’ after the class, but what does it actually mean?”]

Namaste is a greeting and mudra (gesture). The word comes from Sanskrit and means ‘I bow to you’. The palms of the hands are placed against each other in front of the chest. It is a way to show your respect.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=” Can I have a shower after the class?”]

Yoga Spot doesn’t have showers on the premises. Doing yoga, you will likely only sweat lightly. Most people find it unnecessary to shower afterwards. Besides, it’s not healthy to shower right after yoga or pilates. There are important salts and minerals in sweat, and after a short while your body will absorb these back through the skin. They will help with your recovery. When you shower, you remove these substances from your body.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Do you offer a free trial class at Yoga Spot?”]

You can get three trial classes for only 25 EUR (so that’s only 8.33 EUR per class). The first time you come, everything is new – the yoga studio, the people, the teacher and the class (and maybe it’s even your first time of doing yoga or pilates). Because of all these new impressions, people are often still ‘in their head’. Everything will be less new on the second visit – you know a little better how things work and there’s more room to feel and explore. After this class, you will also have a better idea if this style of yoga suits your needs. If not, you will have the opportunity to try another class (we’re happy to give you advice!). After the third time, you can tell whether you feel at home, whether the class offers what you need and whether you gel with the teacher(s). If you decide to continue, then you know for sure that you’re in the right place.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”I want to join a class – do I have to book in advance?”]

Preferably, yes. It’s useful for us and for you too. For you, because a spot is guaranteed and also because we can call you in case something unexpected happens. It’s good for the teacher as it enables her/him to prepare the room for the right amount of people, and good for administrative purposes too.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=” How can I book a class?”]

You can book a class under your own name via the timetable on our website. You first have to create an account, then afterwards it’s just a matter of logging in. We provide a step-by-step guide on how to do this, click here. Still have any questions? Then give us a call or visit the studio – we’ll sort it out for you.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Do you accept cash &/or cards?”]

At Yoga Spot, you can only pay by debit card (PIN). It’s faster, easier and safer, and however small the amount, there are no extra costs attached to it. You can also make purchases online using iDEAL.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=” Studio Rental & Company Yoga”]

I would really love to organise an event/workshop/course at Yoga Spot.
